Beautifully kept & well educated Rangers. I took my Grandson and we all loved it!! I highly recommend everyone visiting. The grounds are beautiful for a picnic and pictures, too! They even have a little gift shop. If you are interested in history and wildlife, a must visit.
We stopped by for a quick break on our trip up to Dallas. I thought a quick in and out and on our way was the order of the day. But, the amazing thing is this turned out to be one of the best stops I have made in a long time. While my wife made for the restroom, I decided to take a few moments in the gift shop. I poked around in the books and maps a little bit waiting for my wife. When she came back I could tell she was ready to get going again. Then one of the rangers informed us of the Junior Ranger program offered by the National Park Service. I could tell my wife was kind of skeptical of right off..There was a free badge and she can't resist free stuff especially for our kids so she was on the edge, so I kind of nudged her a little and we were off on a scavenger hunt. We found all our animals and our little boy had a wonderful time running around the exhibits looking for pine beetles and alligators. Then we watched a great short little movie about a little girl getting lost in the woods. Then we had our own Junior Ranger, he got a badge and we purchased a vest and some binoculars and for the next three days we couldn't get the vest off him. He stopped everybody and showed them his badge and his "camping" gear and how he's now a Junior Ranger.
WE LOVE THIS PARK!! And all of the trails. The Rangers are extremely helpful too, facilities are clean, and great signage. It's such a shame that the preserve has been whittled down to just over a hundred thousand acres from some 3 MILLION acres. We hope to see more of the land protected in the future. An INVALUABLE resource for our children!
Enjoyed coming out here to help a friend said of his deer lease great people love being on the four-wheeler
The hiking trails are well maintained. Park rangers are knowledgeable and friendly..
